  • Information about work permits

For accurate information about working in the UK, visit the British Home Office website for purpose  http://www.workingintheuk.gov.uk

  • Medical indemnity insurance

The 2 main insurance companies for professional indemnity insurance in the UK are:

The Medical Defence Union www.the-mdu.com

The Medical Protection Society www.medicalprotection.org/medical/united_kingdom/

We recently learnt that policies from outside the UK often do NOT give you adequate cover as court settlements, including legal fees, can easily be over £1million. We recommend that our doctors get British insurance from a reputable source.

  • Learn medical English in Poland

In the interest of good medical practice and patient safety, hospitals are required to ensure that spoken and written English are of a very high standard, even for EU nationals. Good conversational English is sometimes not good enough to be successful in an interview situation. We cannot overemphasize the importance of good medical English, without it you would not be able to get a job. We usually recommend a medical English course. We have seen Multimed's course and can recommend it: www.multimed.edu.pl or nsjo@multimed.edu.pl

  • British Council

The British Council was set up in 1934 to promote a wider knowledge of the United Kingdom abroad, to promote the knowledge of the English language, and to develop closer cultural relations between the United Kingdom and other countries. Please see www.britishcouncil.org. You can read about learning English in your country or in Britain, or how to take the IELTS test http://www.britcoun.org/learning-learn-english.htm

We recommend the IELTS test to all our doctors, as the concern we hear most about doctors from abroad, is their level of English. If you have a good IELTS score, you will stand a better chance to get a job in Britain.
